York, South Carolina Marriage and Death Notices, 1823-65

Collection of eight area newspaper marriage and death notices

Description

Situated on the North Carolina border, York County, South Carolina, lies in the important Piedmont area of the state. This database is a collection of marriage and obituary notices from eight newspapers in the area and contains over 5000 names of persons found in the notices. Persons from outside York County can also be found here, such as residents of surrounding counties and even North Carolina, as many came to Yorkville to be married and avoid the marriage bond required in their resident state. These notices come from the following newspapers: the Pioneer (1823-1824), Pioneer and South-Carolina Whig (1829-1830), Encyclopedia (1825-1826), Journal of the Times (1837), Yorkville Compiler (1840-1841), Yorkville Miscellany (1851-1854), Remedy (1853), and the Yorkville Enquirer (1855-1865).
